Caryn plays Sitar, Kalimba, Drum Kit and various hand percussion instruments - Djembe, Bongos, Darabuka and Tabla. Her Irish heritage connects her to Celtic music and she also has a passion for African, Indian and Arabic music. As a member of longstanding WA world music act Peta Lithgow and Malaika, she has played percussion in many different styles that also include Latin and Cajun.

Caryn has performed as a guest with many prominent local and International Acts, including the Zydecats, Ray Pereira and Nii Tettey Tetteh, the New Orleans based Dirty Dozen Band and the Justin Vali Band from Madagascar.

She has studied under a number of percussion teachers from Australia and beyond - Gary Ridge, Ray Pereira, Ni Tettey Tetteh (Africa), Mossamba Diop (Africa), Hossam Ramzey (Egypt) Jatinder Singh (India). She has also studied Sitar with India's Sharma Raj Kumal and Mohan Vina Visram Bhatt and Khalil Gudaz of Afghanistan.
