Ben Franz has been working professionally as a musician since 1989, playing double bass, electric bass, and more recently, the lap steel guitar. Coming from a roots music background, Ben went on to study jazz at the West Australian Academy of Performing Arts from 1992 - 1996. His musical journey has taken him through such diverse styles as rockabilly and western swing, country, many forms of blues, jazz, funk, rock, pop, electronica and world music. Most recently he has been touring solidly throughout Australia, The United States, Canada, The UK and Ireland with Australian folkies The Waifs. He won the award for best bass player in the 1992 WAMIA awards, and in 2003 won 2 Arias and 2 Technical Arias for the Waifs' album "Up All Night". SELECTED GROUPS: The Coolgardies: 1989 - 1990
