Andy was born in Brisbane and moved to Perth in 1974.

He is a singer songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, playing a wide range of instruments that include guitar, cittern, oud, fiddle, bodhran, didgeridoo, kora and overtone flute.

He is also a lecturer in Audio Production, Radio Performance and Music Studies at the WA Academy of Performing Arts, as well as sometimes Programme Maker for ABC Radio National's "The Planet".

MUSICAL HISTORY:

2002-3 "The Spelman Project" - solo live performance on guitar, cittern, oud, fiddle, voice etc with pre-recorded soundscape and backing. Performances at National Folk Festival, Fairbridge Festival, Nannup Music Festival, Down South Festival, Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts, Mundaring Folk and Blues Club, Kulcha (Multicultural Arts WA)

1999-2003 "David Hyams and the Miles to Go Band" - original acoustic celtic-influenced music. Playing acoustic guitar, cittern, bodhran, didgeridoo, vocals. Festivals have included Port Fairy, Fairbridge, the Boite Winter Festival (Melbourne), the Illawarra Folk Festival (NSW), and Nannup Music Festival.

1996-2003 "Caravan"/"The Magic Band" - original, traditional and contemporary fusion of ethnic, folk, rock, reggae and jazz. Mainly acoustic. Lots of instruments. Lots of rhythms. Lots of improvisation.

1997-2003 "Electronic Effects for Acoustic Instruments" - workshop on the use of electronics to enhance and modify the sound of acoustic instruments through PA systems and amplifiers. Joondalup Festival, Kosmic Sound, Fairbridge Festival, Nannup Festival, Down South Festival.
